BBC Children in Need is delighted to announce that following their final grant allocation for this year, over £3 million has been awarded to 86 projects across Wales in 2010. All four of BBC Children in Need grant allocations for this year have been made possible thanks to the fantastic efforts of fundraisers across the UK who helped to raise a record breaking £39million at the 2009 Appeal, which has helped to change the lives of the most disadvantaged young people right here in the UK.
One of the newly awarded projects in Wales is After Adoption who are receiving a grant of £59,981 which will help provide support to adopted young people in both a group setting and individually, to help address any challenges they face in their lives.
Morawelon and London Road Regeneration Partnership in Ynys Mon is another newly awarded project having received a grant of £25,600 across three years as part of BBC Children in Need’s small grant programme. This programme recognises the significant and valuable work that can be done on a grant of up to £10,000 per annum and BBC Children in Need’s funding will help to run an afterschool club for children affected by poor health and poverty, teaching them how to cook a healthy meal and live a healthy lifestyle.
With the 2010 telethon Appeal just around the corner on November 19, the public are being asked to join in and show their spots to help raise lots for BBC Children in Need. This could be as easy as holding a spotty fashion show or sponsoring the boss to wear spots for the day! Every penny donated to the Appeal will go directly to some of the most disadvantaged children and young people across the UK and will make a real difference.
Marc Phillips, National Head of BBC Children in Need in Wales said, “Our amazing fundraisers and supporters have made it possible for us to change lots of young lives in Wales over the last 12 months. Now we need to raise the funds to enable us to do similar work next year. We hope that this year’s Appeal will be the biggest and best ever!”
In Wales, BBC Cymru Wales will be staging a short concert featuring all-girl group The Saturdays and male choir Only Men Aloud during the half-time break of the Wales v Fiji rugby international on November 19. The concert will be screened across the UK as part of BBC Children in Need on BBC One.
