BBC Cymru Wales promotions takes gold at 2010 Promax UK Awards

The BBC Cymru Wales TV promotion for the 2010 Six Nations Wales vs Scotland game has won a gold award at the prestigious 2010 Promax UK Awards, the UK’s biggest television and radio promotion and marketing event, which was held in London at the weekend.

The TV “promo” for the 2010 Six Nations Wales vs Scotland game, which featured a Wales rugby fan from Nantyglo in Blaenau Gwent who witnessed Paul Thorburn’s monster kick from the 1986 Wales vs Scotland game, won the gold award in the Best Sports Promo category. The promo was produced by Phil Higginson, BBC Wales’ Head of Promotions and Branding and directed by promotions director Tim Lewis.

The 2010 Six Nations campaign focused on the six emotions for the Six Nations games – hope, joy, shock, heartache, frustration and euphoria – and included the tag line “Feel every moment of every game on TV, on radio, online”. Each promo featured a Wales rugby fan with their memories of classic Six Nations encounters.

Rhodri Talfan Davies, Head of BBC Wales Strategy and Communications, said: “This is a great honour for the BBC Wales promotions team reflecting the quality and high standard of their work. The Six Nations is the biggest sporting date in our national calendar – and once again our creative team captured those special emotions that surround this landmark event.”
