BBC National Orchestra of Wales will be bringing romance to north Wales, as they present a series of love-themed concerts this February.

On Saturday 15 February in Wrexham, and Sunday 16 February in Llandudno, the Orchestra will be presenting two concerts filled with romance, with audiences treated to music including the Love Scene from Berlioz’s Roméo et Juliette, and Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade. Young violinist Chloë Hanslip will also appear with the Orchestra to play Bruch’s romantic Violin Concerto No 1.

For their spring tour to mid and north Wales, the Orchestra is conducted by the popular young British conductor Nicholas Collon, who has shot to fame in recent years, conducting orchestras around the world.

The Orchestra’s new Director, Michael Garvey, is looking forward to bringing these love-themed concerts to north Wales: “Composers have always taken inspiration from the best love stories when writing music, so it seemed like a perfect idea to play some of these beautiful romantic pieces over Valentine’s weekend.

“These concerts in Wrexham and Llandudno are the perfect treat for your loved one this Valentine’s Day – with plenty of romantic music to tug at your heart strings!”

The Orchestra also travel to Aberystwyth on Thursday 13 February, and Bangor on Friday 14 February, presenting two concerts of Viennese classics – including Schubert’s noble Symphony No 9, with beautiful melodies and warmth throughout the whole piece. The Orchestra will be joined on stage by young violinist Callum Smart, who first performed with BBC National Orchestra of Wales as part of the BBC Young Musician competition in 2010. In these performances on tour, Callum returns to perform Mozart’s Violin Concerto No 5.
