Be Part of the Big Dribble

Olympic fever rolls on in Wrexham with the announcement that the North Wales leg of the npower Big Dribble is to be staged on Llwyn Isaf Green on Wednesday 18th April between 6-8pm.

The ‘Dribble’ is aimed at raising awareness of hockey by getting the nation to dribble a hockey ball from Edinburgh to London in an attempt to set a record for dribbling hockey balls 2012km across Great Britain.

Starting in Edinburgh on 15th April, the Big Dribble will be touring the country over 18 days giving people of all ages and abilities the chance to pick up a stick and take part.

It couldn’t be easier to take part in Wrexham as there is no need to bring any equipment or have any previous experience of hockey. Whether you’re four years old or one hundred and four simply turn up and give it a go by dribbling a hockey ball around a specially-designed, 100 metre course.

The Wrexham public will also be invited to wish Great Britain’s hockey teams ‘good luck’ ahead of the Olympic Games by writing a message on a giant hockey ball, which will journey around Britain before being presented to the GB teams at the end of the event.

All participants will receive a certificate for taking part and their photo will appear in the npower Big Dribble gallery on www.thebigdribble.com.

Ken Danskin, Leisure Officer at Wrexham County Borough Council said:

“I am delighted the organisers have selected Wrexham to host the North Wales leg of the npower Big Dribble. The event promises to be an excellent opportunity for local children and adults alike to get into the Olympic spirit and have a go at dribbling a hockey ball.

Wrexham Council is committed to creating a healthy, active, sporting town and the event will only serve to bolster this ambition. With the Olympic torch arriving shortly after on 30th May this is an excellent year to be involved in sport in Wrexham.”
