Be Part of the National Eisteddfod’s Childrens Pageant

If you have children in Year 4, 5 or 6, and live in the Wrexham area, why not register them to take part in  the Wrexham and District National Eisteddfod Children’s Pageant workshops?

Almost 150 children from the area have already registered to take part in this one-off performance, and the Eisteddfod is encouraging more children who’d love to appear on stage to register for a memorable experience.

The show encompasses elements of dance, drama and music and is suitable for Welsh speakers, learners and non-Welsh speakers.  It’s a great opportunity for Key Stage 2 youngsters to be trained by professional artists.  The children will perform on the Pavilion stage at the National Eisteddfod on the evening of Saturday 30 July.

Clwyd Theatr Cymru Theatre for Young People is responsible for the project this year, and they have assembled a team of renowned professional artists from Wales, under the direction of Clwyd Theatr Cymru’s award-winning director, Tim Baker, to work with Wrexham’s young people.  The performance will be inspired by the wonderful book, ‘Where Children Sleep’ by James Mollison, published by Chris Boot, and the evening will be supported by the Arts Council of Wales.

Hywel Wyn Edwards, Eisteddfod Organiser, said, “We hope that the production will introduce the children to new and varied experiences which will be of benefit to them, and offer an unique opportunity to remember the Eisteddfod’s visit to their area and cherish for the rest of their lives.  We encourage parents and teachers to ensure that the children are registered to take part.”

For more information, ring the Eisteddfod Office – 0845 4090 400 – or Nerys Edwards, Clwyd Theatr Cymru Theatre for Young People  Administrator, on  01352 701 575.  The closing date is Tuesday 3 May and the first worksho is held on the following Saturday, 7 May.  Details will be send to everyone involved with the project beforehand.  Registration forms can be downloaded from the Eisteddfod 2011 website – www.eisteddfod.org.uk.
