The volunteer crew of Beaumaris Lifeboat Station were called out today (Saturday 25 September) at 12.30pm to respond to an incident involving nine students from Bangor University, who were in the water after their rowing boat broke in half as a result of a large wake from a cruiser.
On arrival at the scene, the crew found the students had been recovered by a safety boat so proceeded to retrieve half of the broken boat, which was floating under Britannia Bridge.
On their way back to the boathouse, the crew were diverted to assist a 21ft Maxim boat, with one person onboard, which had broken down. The boat, which was between Lairds and Puffin Island, was towed by the lifeboat to Menai Bridge.
