Residents across the Caerphilly County Borough are being warned to be vigilant after reports of scam telephone calls within the area.
There have been two recent incidents when a telephone caller, claiming to be a Verification Officer from CCBC’s Council Tax Department, rang residents and told them that they have overpaid council tax and asked for bank details to reimburse them.
Fortunately, the residents were not convinced that it was a genuine call and informed the council immediately.
A CCBC spokesman said: “We would encourage residents to ensure they know who they are dealing with over the telephone and not to give any details, especially bank details and personal information out unless they are completely sure that the caller is genuine.”
Caerphilly County Borough Council urges all residents be wary of any suspicious calls.
If you have any concerns regarding a telephone call you have received, please report it to CCBC on 01443 815588.
