Nearly two weeks of events and entertainment are planned when Port Talbot Community Festival returns on the 24 May, launching with a Ladies Luncheon at Margam Orangery to raise money for the Special Needs Activity Centre (SNAC) based in Taibach.
Throughout the festival there will be a whole host of interesting things to keep the family entertained. From the ever popular Search for a Star talent contests to silk painting workshops and an evening ramble with Cwmafan Residents Action Committee.
There will be author, storytelling and film show events at our local libraries, a sentimental journey down memory lane at Cwmafan Community Centre with the children from Bryn Primary School as well as the famously funny Reginald D Hunter at the Princess Royal Theatre.
Also on offer will be Last Choir Standing heats, performances from Bishop Gore Training Woodwind Orchestra and Symphonic Brass at Margam Orangery.
West Glamorgan Senior Electric String Orchestra and Mellow Cellos will delight audiences and the Princess Royal Theatre Performing Arts School are at the Princess Royal Theatre.
At Aberavon Seafront on Whitsun Bank Holiday Monday (May 31st) everyone will have an opportunity to join in the National Family Day Picnic
Saturday, 29 May is Fiesta Day and the town centre will be teaming with activities when the Mayor of Neath Port Talbot officially welcomes everyone to the Festival.
Celebrations kick off a wonderful day of entertainment (from 10am) with charity stalls, craft stalls, fairground rides, racing ducks, vintage cars and fire engines, and a Toy and Train Fair in the Princess Royal Theatre.
Then during half term the Aberafan Shopping Centre has a week long programme of activities to include Punch and Judy, face painting, magic shows, bouncy castle and children’s disco.
There’s a whole range of events at Margam Park too, including the Big Welsh Weekend Mountain Bike event and the Kite Festival. Also check out events at Afan Forest Park where there’ll be wandering storytellers at Theatre Tymaen as well as the return of the popular pony driving competition.
Council Leader, Ali Thomas, said he was delighted with the range of activities taking place during the festival this year, which, for the first time, has been extended beyond half term.
“I look forward to seeing performances from our talented school children in this year’s splendid festival. This is an ideal opportunity for the people of Port Talbot to join in a wide range of events.”
