Gwent Police Assistant Chief Constable Jeff Farrar welcomed four members of the Blue Knights law enforcement motorcycle club today, 14 September 2009, where they were presented with a cheque for £500 after they stopped off during a charity ride from Lands End to John O’Groats.
The police bikers from Avon and Somerset embarked on their week-long journey to raise money for police charity Child Victims of Crime (CVOC). PC Greg Miller, PC Adrian Peck, Information Officer John Cooke and retired MoD officer Richard Waters are stopping at various police forces and organisations along the way to collect sponsorship and raise awareness of the great work the charity undertakes.
PC Greg Miller said:
“We’ve received tremendous support from colleagues, members of the public and local businesses and have already raised over £8,000, which is fantastic. We felt compelled to support Child Victims of Crime, as working for the police we all know how crime can cause pain and suffering to victims – particularly when it’s a child that has been affected. CVOC supports those children whose lives have been shattered by crimes such as violence, abuse and murder, by taking them on once in a lifetime trips that can help to put a little bit of fun and ‘normality’ back into their lives.”
On their return, the intrepid venture will culminate with a charity auction at the Bristol Marriott Hotel on Castle Street in Bristol where a tour of Braun Formula One HQ, Swarovski jewellery and an Aston Martin Thrill Drive will be up for grabs.
PC Adrian Peck added:
“We are really looking forward to the charity night. With Stavros Flatley providing the entertainment, it will be the perfect end to a great week and another opportunity to raise funds for this very important cause.”
