Football fans backing Cardiff City to win the Championship play off-final will be able to catch all the live action on a giant screen in Cardiff Bay.
With excitement and anticipation at the thought of Premier League football next season spreading across the city, Cardiff Council is keen to ensure that fans who want to watch the historic clash against Blackpool at Wembley on Saturday May 22 can do so in a safe and controlled environment.
The Council is working in conjunction with South Wales Police, Cardiff Harbour Authority and the Welsh Assembly Government to put together a family-friendly event with a big screen at Roahl Dahl Plass, Cardiff Bay to give the Welsh capital a chance to show their support for Dave Jones’ Bluebirds as they aim to get to the Premier League.
Seven thousand fans will be able to savour the occasion at Roald Dahl Plass with free admission to the event on a first come first served basis from 1pm until half an hour after the match finishes. The screen will be showing live coverage of all the big match build-up from 2pm counting down to kick off at 3pm.
For health and safety reasons no-one will be allowed to take alcohol onto the site but bars selling alcohol and refreshments will be available nearby.
Executive member for Sport Leisure& Culture, Councillor Nigel Howells, said: “We want to make sure that as many people as possible who want to have the chance to watch the match in a family-friendly environment can come along and see the Bluebirds take on Blackpool.
“This is a huge occasion for the city and if fans weren’t lucky enough to get their hands on tickets for Wembley, then surely this is the next best thing. I’m sure the atmosphere will be electric with everyone getting behind Cardiff City to win and get into the Premier League.
“Roald Dahl Plass is a fantastic location for the big screen. It’s going to be a great day and we are delighted to be working with South Wales Police and the Harbour Authority to ensure we can provide this facility.”
