Biggest Drugs Bust in Merthyr’s History

Officers in Northern division and the organised crime unit made one of the biggest drugs bust in Merthyr Tydfil’s history after they discovered cannabis resin estimated to be worth half a million pound.

Officers checked a car parked outside a KFC at Merthyr’s Cyfartha Retail park and found 1,200 9oz bars of cannabis resin – 240 in the rear passenger area of the car and 960 in the boot.

Detective Chief Inspector Phil Jones head of Merthyr and RCT CID said:

This seizure of controlled drugs is the largest there has been in Merthyr Tydfil both in terms of quantity and value and sends a clear message that South Wales Police are determined to Keep South Wales Safe from organised crime.

Two men appeared in Aberdare Magistrates Court charged with conspiracy to supply drugs. Both have been remanded in custody until an appearance at Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court on Friday April 23rd.
