Residents in rural communities and several smaller villages are being reminded about where they should set out their refuse for collection.
Denbighshire’s policy requires residents to set out refuse where their property meets the highway. However, in a very small number of cases Council staff have continued to enter private property to collect refuse. Refuse collection teams have been instructed to ensure this practice stops to ensure consistency across Denbighshire.
Denbighshire’s Waste Manager, Ken Thompson, explains: “The policy of collecting refuse from the edge of people’s property is mainly to ensure the Council works efficiently.
“With new recycling services, the number of household collections the Council makes has more than doubled to almost 5 million every year.
“The Council has also found itself subject to a number of claims for damages and one operative has been injured in the past due to a poorly maintained surface on private property.”
“This policy applies equally to all household refuse and recycling collections and, in the interests of fairness, it is very important that the Council is consistent in its approach.”
Households that may be affected are being informed by collection teams with letters due to be delivered in the next few days.
Of course, where there is no person in the household able to set out the refuse at the collection point then residents can contact the Council to request an Assisted Collection.
