Blackwood will be transformed into a winter wonderland this weekend at the town’s first ever Dickensian Christmas Fayre.
This year’s new and exciting two day event is set to be jam-packed with family entertainment, Christmas shopping opportunities and even the chance to meet a real reindeer!
Blackwood High Street will be closed to traffic on Saturday 4th & Sunday 5th December to allow over 50 festive stalls, funfair rides and other attractions to take over the town centre.
To fit in with the Dickensian theme there will be entertainers taking you back in time such as Tiny Tim, Scrooge, Penny Farthing riding gent and much more.
The event will also have a ‘green’ theme with a special ‘green zone’ located opposite Blackwood Miners Institute. Activities will include:
- Festive cookery demonstrations, taster sessions and tips about re-using leftover food
- Healthy living advice and the chance to ride a special ‘smoothie bike’ to make your own healthy drink with festive fruits
- A ‘green grotto’ provided by the council’s countryside service
- Free ‘bags for life’, free native trees to plant and other giveaways from the council’s recycling team
- On the Sunday, a real reindeer will take pride of place in the green zone to give the event a real festive feel!
As a finale, on the Sunday afternoon a ‘Green Giant’ will lead a procession with a samba band and the pupils of Blackwood Primary School all dressed up as green helpers (starting from the Market Square and finishing in the green zone at about 3.30pm).
To help parents shop for their little ones, why not put the children in the FREE crèche facility, which is provided by Tip Toes Day Nursery.
