Blaenau Gwent Council is advising parents to make sure their child car seats are safe after a recent awareness event found over half of seats checked were not fitted correctly.
Out of 60 free checks carried out by Trading Standards:
- 17 seats passed the check
- 31 seats needed adjusting to fit safely and correctly
- 6 seats were unsuitable for the size or weight of the child or incompatible with the vehicle
- 1 seat was condemned – the owner was advised to contact the manufacturer
- 5 demonstrations were given on how to fit a child seat
Coun Keith Barnes, the Council’s Executive Member for the Environment said:
“It is vital that anyone with a child car seat makes sure it is fitted properly – this is so important for safety in case the worst does happen and there is a road traffic accident.”
