Blog insight into week in the life of Swansea’s Lord Mayor

A special blog has been set up to give young people in particular an insight into a week in the life of the Lord Mayor of Swansea and some of Swansea’s local Councillors.

Swansea Council Lord Mayor Cllr Alan Lloyd, Leader of the Labour Group Cllr David Phillips, Leader of the Conservative Group Cllr Rene Kinzett and Swansea Administration Group Member Councillor Darren Price are taking part.

The blogs can be accessed via http://www.swansea.gov.uk/index.cfm?articleid=33030

The move is part of Local Democracy Week 2009 which takes place from October 12 to October 18.

It aims to encourage everyone to play their role in local democracy, especially young people, and will bring Councillors and people together.

Swansea Council is one of hundreds of Councils across the UK taking part in the campaign to get people more involved with, and aware of, their local Council.

Other events include an online questionnaire with questions including do you know who your ward councillor is through to questions about how you would like to vote in future.

A Treasure Hunt has also been organised with Primary Schools in partnership with the New Central Library. It will be held on Thursday October 15 and involves pupils from Waunarlwydd Primary School and Cadle Primary School.

Pupils will discover resources in the library through a series of clues which will have a democracy theme.

The winners of the Treasure Hunt will be revealed on the Local Democracy Week web pages in the news section.

Mandy Bebb, Swansea Council Electoral Registration Officer, said: “We hope that using tools such as blogs which have a wide appeal among young people will encourage them to find out more about our Lord Mayor and some of our Councillors too.”
