Calling all Bluebirds…The Cardiff Story Museum is celebrating the history of Cardiff City FC with a special event featuring rare archival footage, artefacts, photos and some special guests. ‘From 1899 to now: a celebration of Cardiff City FC’s history’ will be held on July 23 at 7pm.
Cabinet Member for Community Development, Co-operatives and Social Enterprise, Cllr Peter Bradbury said: “As an ardent Cardiff City fan myself I know that this event will be a chance for fans to celebrate the club’s rich heritage. I’m sure it will help all my fellow Bluebirds to look through our history and begin to look forward to the new season and the goal of regaining our Premier League status. I know the Museum team are hoping that fans will use it as a chance to look through the Club’s chequered history and celebrate the great achievements of it’s past.”
Museum Manager, Victoria Rogers, said: “Cardiff City has had such an impact on the city’s identity and its heritage, that we thought it was only right to celebrate it! We are very lucky that Richard Shepherd, the Club’s historian and archivist, has kindly agreed to speak about the club’s history at the event.”
During the last three years the Museum has worked with over 130 community groups on a variety of projects, has welcomed over 6,000 school children and over 800,000 visitors from all over Cardiff, the UK and the world to discover more about Cardiff, the people who have lived and worked here, and what makes the city special.
The event will be a fundraiser to raise money to support the Museum’s learning and community outreach work. Victoria Rogers continued: “We have some great projects lined up this year, for example, we are working with the Cardiff City Supporters Trust on an intergenerational project, training young fans in the skills needed and raising their confidence to interview and record the memories of older fans and this fundraising event will allow us to continue working on projects like this.”
Tickets are available at an early bluebird special rate of £12.50. To buy tickets, call into the Museum, email [email protected] or phone 2078 8334 (Mon-Fri) or 2087 3573 (Mon-Sun).
