North Wales Police and North Wales Police Authority will be visiting a university campus in a bid to help students stay safe during their time in north Wales.
Officers and staff will be talking with new students at Bangor University’s Freshers’ Fair this week.
A host of useful information will be available for students to take away, such as crime prevention leaflets.
The Police Authority will also be promoting ‘Balance your Bobbies’ – an interactive scheme whereby people can indicate which issues they would like the police to concentrate on in their area.
‘Balance your Bobbies’ will soon be available on the North Wales Police’s breakout website – www.yglas.com – and can also be accessed via the North Wales Police and North Wales Police Authority websites.
Community Beat Manager for the University, PC Gwenno Jones said: “We are pleased to be part of the Freshers’ Fair and being able to offer advice to students – many of whom will be away from home for the first time.
“We want all students, as well as others in our community, to stay safe at all times and we will be on hand to offer tips on how best to do that.”
Ian Davies, from North Wales Police’s Citizen Focus programme said: “We see close engagement with all communities within North Wales as key to making people feel reassured and that we are listening to their issues at a very local level.
“Bangor University is certainly a community in itself, where the population of Bangor and surrounding areas will again swell by 10,000 students.
“It is anticipated that 4,000 new students will be attending the Fresher’s Fair next week and we want to ensure that we are engaging with them from the onset. We are looking forward to welcoming them to the area and will be available to answer any questions they may have about the specific role North Wales Police plays in their community.
“We will also be informing the students of the ways in which they can contact their local policing team and our presence on social networking sites such as Facebook.”
