Caerphilly County Borough Council’s nominated Armed Forces Champion Cllr Alan Higgs presented representatives from ABF The Soldiers’ Charity and Ty Hafan with a generous cheque for almost £800.

ABF and Ty Hafan are both nominated charities of the 203 (Welsh) Field Hospital. Funds were raised on behalf of the organisations during the recent parade through Risca town centre. Pupils from Risca Comprehensive School worked alongside local cadet forces for the duration of the parade accepting donations.

Cllr. Alan Higgs, nominated Armed Forces Champions, said: “I am delighted that our kind hearted residents raised an impressive £795.90 in just two hours. We are committed to working with our partners to support our armed forces community and it will continue to be high on our agenda.”

Lindsay Doyle, Volunteer Ambassador, said: “Ty Hafan is extremely grateful for this generous donation. These vital funds donated to Ty Hafan will help provide comfort, care and support to the families of life-limited children and young people who are not expected to reach adulthood. This service is offered free to all families throughout Wales. I would like to extend my thanks on behalf of Ty Hafan, the family hospice for young lives.”

The 203 (Welsh) Field Hospital is Caerphilly County Borough Council’s designated partner for the Armed Forces Covenant, a voluntary agreement of mutual support between the Caerphilly county borough civilian community and its local Armed Forces community, which was signed back in 2013.
