Bonymaen’s Family Centre is staging an open day to mark its move to a new home.
The centre is re-opening at the former Cwm Infants School site so it can continue to offer the facilities, classes and clubs enjoyed by children and their parents.
The Diocese of Swansea and Brecon has run the facility from Cefn Hengoed Community School since 1999.
Now the centre is moving to a new temporary home on the nearby former Cwm Infant School site to allow the multi-million pound revamp of Cefn Hengoed Community School to move ahead.
The Family Centre open day is taking place on Monday December 6 from 10am until 4.30pm. Little ones will be able to meet Father Christmas and have fun on the bouncy castle.
Cherrie Taylor, Executive Officer for Faith in Families, said: “This move enables us to ensure delivery of the vital family and support services to the community during the redevelopment of the school. Children can learn and experience many play and fun activities whilst parents and the rest of the community can continue to access training, support, advice and friendship.
“Faith in Families has been committed to this area for over 11 years and is thrilled that this work can carry on with minimal disruption.”
Around 300 local families each year benefit from using the Church in Wales-run Bonymaen Family Centre with around 75 visits each day.
Activities on offer at the centre include a parent and toddler group, a playgroup, an after-school club, family fun days, parenting courses, first aid courses, vocational training, trips and holiday play schemes.
Sue Hollister, Headteacher at Cefn Hengoed Community School, said: “The entire school community will miss the Family Centre being at the school but we’ll remain close neighbours and will continue to work together on joint community events and activities.
“Everyone at the school wishes the Family Centre happiness and continued success.”
Richard Parry, Swansea Council’s Director of Education, added: “The Family Centres in Bonymaen and elsewhere in Swansea provide an extremely valuable service for their communities. We are pleased to be able to work with them in making the most efficient use of existing resources to continue to provide valuable frontline services.”
