Boost for 2011 Eisteddfod Fund

With exactly eighteen months to go before the start of the Wrexham and District National Eisteddfod, the local fund received a welcome boost with the announcement that Gwersyllt Community Council is donating £15,000 towards the Eisteddfod, which will be held on Lower Berse Farm, Wrexham from 30 July – 6 August 2011.

Executive Committee Chair for the 2011 Eisteddfod, Aled Roberts, said:

“We’re very grateful to Gwersyllt Community Council for their support.  This is a great boost for the local fund.  The response of people in the Wrexham area has been excellent, and many fund-raising activities are already taking place.  Things are looking good for an Eisteddfod to remember in eighteen months time.”

There’ll be a chance  for local people to have a taste of what’s in store on 3 July this year, when the Proclamation Ceremony for the 2011 Eisteddfod takes place  in Llwyn Isaf near The Guildhall, with the Gorsedd of the Bards and representatives from local groups and organisations walking through the town.

Hywel Wyn Edwards, Eisteddfod Organiser, said:

“We have to announce that we intend holding the Eisteddfod in the local area at least a year and a day before the Festival begins.  This event is an opportunity to ensure that everyone knows that Wrexham and District is the home of the 2011 Eisteddfod.

“The tradition of encouraging local groups and organisations to be join the march through the town, has become very popular, and it’s great to see so many people taking part in the event.  We’ll be contacting these groups over the next few months, in the hope that many of them will join us for the Proclamation event on Saturday 3 July.”

The National Eisteddfod festival attracts around 160,000 visitors annually, and is held in north and south Wales alternately.  Entry to all festival activities is free for the price of a daily Maes ticket.

The Eisteddfod
receives a grant from the Welsh Assembly Government through the Welsh Language Board, and from all unitary authorities in Wales through a partnership agreement with the Welsh Local Government Association.
