A youth group that’s going from strength to strength has been given a boost.
The Cynwyd Youth Association have received a £500 donation from Ifor Williams Trailers who have a factory in the village near Corwen.
The organisation was officially established last summer and now meets twice weekly on the astro turf playground next to the local school, Ysgol Bro Dyfrdwy.
Up to 30 children and young people aged between six and 17 attend and they’re now hoping to attract more girls to come along.
The youngsters will be involved in the decision on what the money is spent on.
Volunteer Nia Gwynfor said: “Getting money from Ifor Williams trailers is incredibly important for something community-based like this and the donation will make a real difference.
“There is a lot of enthusiasm here and the older ones act as role models for the younger members which is important. As well as doing the activities, they are learning social skills as well.
“As a parent myself I know that my son is here and he is safe and it’s at a set time because they do the same thing twice a week.”
Among the regulars at the youth group is Sion Tyler Lawrence, eight, whose father is a technician in the sales department of Ifor Williams Trailers in Corwen.
He said: “I like coming here and playing with my friends. I’ve made a lot of new friends here. It’s a lot of fun.
Another fan is Cai Wyn Jones, aged nine, whose grandfather Robin Jones works as a materials coordinator across the road at Ifor Williams Trailers
Cai said: “I’ve been coming here for about a month. I think this club is good.
“We all work in a team and everything and there’s a good crew here.”
It was a view endorsed by Cai’s mum, Lowri Jones, who said: “We live across the road and when he’s here we know he’s safe.
“On top of that he’s made so many new friends, older and younger than him.
“He lives for football so it’s nice that he can come down here. It’s like heaven for him. He’s a massive football fan – it keeps him happy and out of trouble.”
The cheque was presented to the youth group by Rhys Davies, a team leader at Ifor Williams Trailers, who lives up the road in Llandrillo.
He said: “I very happy the company is supporting the Cynwyd Youth Association.
“Generally, there aren’t a lot of things for the children to do in these small villages so to have children come and do things like this is a good thing.
“Importantly, the parents know that the children are safe when they come here because the activities are supervised.
“These days a lot of children stay home on their computers so a bit of fresh air and running around is very good for them.”
