Borrowing library books on line in NPT

Neath Port Talbot library members can now borrow books from the comfort of their own home.

The Council is leading a pilot project in Wales to develop an electronic lending service.

From this week, libraries will be using new technology for lending eBooks. The service, called eBooks for Wales, is jointly funded by CyMAL (Museums, Archives and Libraries Wales) and many local authorities across Wales.

Customers can borrow eBooks by downloading them from home, using their library membership card number and PIN number which is available from their local library.

They will be able to select, borrow or reserve their e Books from the eBooks for Wales website www.wales.libraryebooks.co.uk

There will be a wide range of titles to choose from including biographies, travel guides, latest fiction as well as children’s books.

eBooks can be downloaded onto the customer’s PC, laptop, smart phone, tablet PC or selected e readers. They can be borrowed for three weeks after which the eBook will disappear from their device.

Council Leader, Ali Thomas, said this is an exciting new way for residents to make more use of their local library.

He said, “There will be no need to personally visit a library so the service will be of huge benefit to those who find it difficult to get out and about.

“Introducing new technology to the way services are delivered opens up the service to more people and makes it more efficient.”
