Nick Bourne, Leader of the Welsh Conservatives in the National Assembly, today proclaimed that the Welsh Conservatives are the party of small businesses as he outlined plans in Anglesey to get the North Wales economy moving.
Nick Bourne was joined by Ynys Mon candidate Paul Williams and candidate for North Wales Antoinette Sandbach in a visit to Cromar White ltd, a small business in Valley, which supplies miniature railway equipment.
Mr Bourne outlined his commitment to abolish business rates for all small businesses to encourage economic growth.
The visit comes just days after figures revealed that prosperity levels in North Wales are amongst the lowest in the UK at just 70% of the UK average.
Nick Bourne said, “After 12 years of Labour-led Assembly Government, Wales is the poorest nation of the UK and our economy is not achieving its potential.
“Labour Ministers have mismanaged our economy, built up massive debts and driven the UK to the brink of bankruptcy.
“Small businesses are the key to our future prosperity and need to be supported so we can create new jobs and stimulate economic growth.
“Welsh Conservatives would help small businesses to expand and create new jobs by abolishing business rates for all small businesses in Wales.
“By helping small businesses to grow we can make North Wales a more prosperous place to live and work.”
Paul Williams, candidate for Ynys Môn said, “Over the past ten years more than 2,000 jobs have been lost on Ynys Môn — the equivalent of the entire population of Beaumaris.
“Ieuan Wyn Jones has been Minister for the Economy for the past four years but has failed to take measures to support small, local businesses either on Ynys Môn or across North Wales — since July last year only 1% of business support money has come to Anglesey. Yet its small businesses like this which, given the right support, which will make a real difference to our rural economy.
“Only the Welsh Conservatives are pledged to abolish business rates for small businesses to ensure that the North Wales economy can grow and thrive.”
