Commenting on the start of Labour’s annual conference in Llandudno, Leader of the Welsh Conservatives in the Assembly, Nick Bourne AM said:
“As we continue to suffer the legacy of 12 years of Labour rule here, the party’s promise to ‘stand up for Wales’ seems utterly absurd.
“Our NHS has been run into the ground, our schools are some of the worst in the world and we are the poorest part of the UK.
“It’s a little late to talk of standing up for our country.
“Even before the conference has begun, the First Minister has focused his attention on the UK government, which continues to mop up the mess left by his own party.
“If he persists in targeting Westminster, I hope to hear reference in Llandudno to Liam Byrne’s note, which explained in no uncertain terms that all the money was gone.
“I also hope reference is made to Welsh Labour’s own budgetary priorities, which do not include our NHS.
“Perhaps he can explain how he intends to improve our health service, given his government’s decision to cut it by a billion pounds.”
