Welsh Conservatives today unveiled an ad-van to tour Wales promoting the Welsh Conservative commitment to protect the NHS budget.
Welsh Conservatives are the only party committed to protect Wales’ NHS budget and increase it in line with inflation for the next four years.
The Labour-led Assembly Government plans to slash NHS funding by £1billion over the next three years, backed by Plaid Cymru and the Lib Dems.
Welsh Conservatives have outlined how they would spend the additional funding for health, by establishing a £10million Cancer Drugs Fund, investing in rapid response vehicles for the ambulance service and pledging to maintain the number of whole-time equivalent registered nurses.
The Party will also increase investment in hospices and stroke services.
Nick Bourne, Leader of the Welsh Conservatives in the National Assembly, said, “Welsh Conservatives are the only party committed to protecting Wales’ NHS budget.
“We have consistently opposed Labour’s plans to slash the NHS budget by £1billion over the next three years.
“Because the NHS is our number one priority, we have taken the tough decisions about where we would save money so we can afford to protect NHS funding.
“The Assembly has a fixed budget so spending is a question of priorities. We are prioritising spending on our NHS so it can respond more quickly, more effectively and more efficiently to the needs of patients.
“We will protect NHS staff, invest in new treatments and eliminate postcode lotteries in services across Wales to help improve patient care.
“We all rely on our NHS in times of greatest need. The NHS is safe in our hands because we all need the security of knowing that we are safe in the hands of the NHS.”
Caroline Jones, Welsh Conservative candidate for Gower, said, “Who would’ve thought that a Labour Government would slash funding to the NHS.
“In Swansea and Gower we’ve seen threats to our local health services with the recent loss of services at Fairwood Hospital and now proposals to downgrade Swansea’s cardiac unit.
“Welsh Conservatives are pledging more money for the NHS than any other party and are best placed to maintain and protect our local health services.”
