An interactive youth mobile unit is set to hit the roads of Denbighshire following its official launch tomorrow (4 November).
The unit will allow young people aged 11-25 years old to access youth work activities and will house a specialist equipment such as computers and laptops in a specially designed and branded vehicle.
This unit will reach out into rural communities, to allow young people to engage in youth work, encouraging learning in fun and creative ways. The mobile has been funded through the Welsh Assembly Government as part of the National Youth Service Strategy and is an example of how the national strategy can support local young people in Denbighshire.
Alongside this initiative, the Youth Service is working in partnership with the Denbighshire Voluntary Services Council to encourage people from the community to train as volunteer youth support workers. It is envisaged that it will help set up voluntary youth groups in communities.
The official launch will take place at Ruthin Craft Centre on 4 November at 4pm.
A number of other events have also been arranged to coincide with the official launch.
70 young people are expected to put senior councillors and council officials under the spotlight, as part of a ‘Question Time’ panel session based on all kinds of environment and green issues. (This event will take place at 7pm on the same day)
People attending the launch will also be able to see the creative talents of Denbighshire’s young people showcased in an exhibition of works that were created during recent events in Ruthin to mark National Youth Work Week.
Councillor Morfudd Jones, Cabinet Lead Member for Children and Young People, said: “This is a major step forward to developing youth services in Denbighshire. This mobile unit will provide the chance for a lot more people to access services and activities and will help us promote the tremendous amount of good work going on in youth service in this high profile new resource.
“The unit will predominantly be used by the council’s youth services, although requests from other departments will be considered, to ensure we get the best value for money service this unit can offer”.
