Bridgend Man Sentenced to 32 Months for Causing Serious Injury by Dangerous Driving

John WatsonA Bridgend man has been sentenced to 32 months imprisonment in a young offenders institution and disqualified from driving for five years for causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

20 year old, John Watson from Bridgend was the driver of a car involved in a serious road traffic collision in Bryncethin during the early hours of Monday 19th August 2013. Watson who was over the drink drive limit, unlicensed and uninsured lost control of the black Ford Ka, left the road and collided with a double garage, resulting in his front seat passenger, a 20 year old local male  sustaining very serious injuries.

Watson who was sentenced at Cardiff Crown Court on 30th June after earlier pleading guilty was also given a consecutive  sentence of  52 weeks for drugs related offences meaning that his total sentence is 44 months imprisonment.

Inspector Carwyn Evans from South Wales Police Roads Policing said:

“The judge asked that we publicly thank the members of the public at scene for their assistance and to credit the emergency service personnel who helped save the victim’s life. This was a very serious incident and the sentence is a stark warning to anyone else considering driving in this manner.”
