Bridgend officers launch Street PACT initiative

A neighbourhood policing team in Bridgend has come up with a dynamic new way of engaging with the local community.

Officers have developed the Street PACT scheme, whereby residents can discuss issues in the comfort of their own homes.

Street PACT will see laminate cards being delivered to local households. The cards specify a time when officers will be back in the street later that day. If residents wish to discuss any issues, they simply display the card in a front window of their home for the officers to see.

The initiative is an alternative to regular PACT meetings, which are held in community locations on a regular basis.

PACT meetings provide an opportunity for the community to meet with local police and have their say on issues in the area.

PCSO Rob Newman said: “We are aware that for a variety of reasons it can be difficult for some members of the community to make it to their local PACT meetings.

“Street PACT will resolve this problem, as we take the PACT process to residents- making it simple, convenient and flexible for their ease.

“The initiative will also allow us to engage with further members of the community who we may not usually meet.”

Mrs Lee, from Bridgend, said: “It’s a really good idea for the local officers to come to us. It will make things a lot easier for many people.”

Street PACT will be launched in the Oldcastle ward of the town this month.
