With further heavy snow forecast for Tuesday 12 January, Bridgend County Borough Council has been working around the clock to ensure that it can continue to provide services for local residents.
With central government now prioritising the areas of the UK that receive fresh supplies of salt, the council is focussing its remaining stock on keeping the main highways network open. The situation is being constantly monitored, but this is a major issue affecting every local authority throughout the UK during the current severe weather.
Contingency plans have been established for secondary schools in the county borough that have candidates for examinations scheduled to take place over the next fortnight in case they are affected by snow disruption.
In the event of a school being closed to other pupils because of snow, pupils and parents who are in any doubt about examination arrangements are advised to telephone their school to check what the plans are.
During the severe weather, the council is also urging residents to be aware of the more vulnerable members of their community – relatives, friends or neighbours – and to check that they are okay on a regular basis until the cold weather improves.
