A two week public consultation begins on Monday 17 January 2011 seeking views on the Buckley Town Centre Masterplan.
Buckley Town Partnership, which has representation from the Town Council, County Council, the local business community, local voluntary groups and others has commissioned the preparation of a plan which is being undertaken by masterplanning practice Urban Practitioners.
A 2008 Flintshire-wide retail study identified that Buckley would benefit from a new supermarket in the town centre. With many local people choosing to shop elsewhere, improving the number and range of shops in Buckley is seen as critical to the longstanding economic health of the town. The masterplan will cover the whole of the town centre but a central objective will be identifying suitable sites for a supermarket.
New leisure and evening uses are currently lacking in the town and there may also be scope to deliver new community services as part of this ‘hub’.
The public will be invited to give their views at Buckley Library, The Precinct, Buckley between Monday 17 January and Monday 31 January 2011. A questionnaire will be available on which views can be made. This questionnaire will also be made available on the County Council’s website at www.flintshire.gov.uk.
Chris Dawson, local business owner and Chair of the Town Partnership said:
“This exhibition in the library will show information about alternative proposals. This is an exciting time for Buckley and an important opportunity for people to come along and share their thoughts and views on proposals for the long term future of our town centre.
“This public consultation starts on Monday 17 January. Recent publicity indicating that there was going to be a public meeting on 12 January was incorrect, and we are sorry for any confusion this may have caused. We very much hope though that many people will make it along to the exhibition between 17 and 31 January and participate in this important consultation.”
Opening times for the exhibition are as follows (staffing times may vary. On Monday, Wednesday and Friday from mid afternoon to early evening, a member of the youth service will also be in attendance):
- Monday 17 January, 12.30pm to 7pm (staffed all day up to 6pm)
- Tuesday 18 January, 9.30am to 7pm
- Wednesday 19 January, 9.30am to 5.30pm (staffed 11am – 1pm)
