Police investigating two recent burglaries in Tremorfa, Cardiff, where jewellery has been stolen are appealing for information from the local community.
On both occasions the burglars gained entry through the back door. One had been left unlocked while the other was forced open.
The most recent break-in happened in Muirton Road sometime between 6.30pm and 7.30pm on Wednesday, June 11. A necklace and bracelet (pictured) made of 14 carat gold were stolen.
The second burglary happened less than a mile away on Whitaker Road sometime between 6.30pm and midnight on Saturday, May 31.
Items of what is described as Asian 22 carat gold jewellery was stolen including black earrings with white diamonds, a single pearl and diamond ring (pictured), and a leaf pattered bracelet.
Detective Constable Nicola Davies said: “This family are distraught, not only because their home has been burgled, but also because the stolen jewellery had been given to them as wedding gifts and has great sentimental value.”
Detectives are keeping an open mind as to whether they burglaries are linked.
Police are reminding people to take extra measures to ensure expensive and sentimental items of jewellery are kept safe.
Such items are ideally kept in a good quality safe or in safety deposit boxes at banks.
Photographs of the jewellery should be stored separately.
Items should not be kept in the top drawer of a chest of drawers, under the bed or in the back of the wardrobe, as these are generally the first places offenders will look.
As always we remind people to make sure all windows and doors are locked including gates leading to rear gardens.
