The cost of running empty office space across the WAG estate is currently over £1200 a day.
That’s according to figures obtained by the Welsh Conservatives.
The total amount of vacant space within the Assembly Government’s administrative estate stands at 1,817 square metres.
The total annual running costs – including rent, rates, service charges, utilities, cleaning and maintenance – was £449,927 “as at March 31st 2011”.
That’s up from £344,173 the previous year, when the total vacant space was 1,441 square metres.
The figures have been released to Angela Burns AM, following a Written Assembly Question.
Mrs Burns said: “This is another example of Labour-Plaid’s excessive waste of public money.
“Since 2009, they’ve squandered over £1.7 million on empty floor space that adds up to the size of about 26 tennis courts.
“Hundreds of thousands of pounds are being whittled away every year – on nothing but cobwebs and dust.
“That’s unforgiveable – particularly within the current financial climate.
“Labour-Plaid needs to look carefully at its failing efficiency and either get rid of its empty office space, or make use of it.”
