The Welsh Conservatives have called for an investigation into what appears to be a serious IT security lapse at the National Assembly.
Concerns have been raised after confidential files belonging to political parties became accessible to others during the morning of Tuesday September 21st. Many of these files contain personal data and confidential information about constituents.
Shadow Minister for Environment and Planning, Angela Burns AM, wrote to the Chief Executive of the Assembly Commission to ask for an investigation into the security breach.
The AM for Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire said: “This has the potential to be a very serious lapse in IT security that could easily have implications for data protection.
“Thousands of constituents who write to their AMs have confidential information stored on a private drive. I am worried these files could have been accessed by anyone working at the Assembly.
“I have called for a full investigation into how this breach in security was allowed to happen and what is being done to make sure it can’t happen again.”
