Burns: Must Try Harder!

Commenting on the publication of Estyn’s report into standards in Welsh schools, Angela Burns AM said:

“What does it take for the current Labour / Plaid Government to sit back and take notice of the mess they are making of the education of our children?”

“Figures have already been released showing Wales at the bottom of the league table of UK nations for literacy, numeracy and science, yet Labour/Plaid refuse to accept that their policies are failing our children. This week has already seen future policies from Plaid Cymru trying to alter the school terms to a 5 or 6 term system without any real consideration to the wider impacts. Should we not get the basics correct before trying to re-arrange school term time with no real assessment on the social, educational and commercial impact of such changes.

What is required is a true and proper consultation with teachers and headmasters to see how the issues can be addressed within the budgets available rather than a “We know better” approach which will never work.”
