Commenting on figures showing that households across Wales are reusing, recycling and composting more than 12 months ago, Shadow Minister for the Environment and Sustainability, Angela Burns AM said:
“It is pleasing to see more people in Wales taking on board the challenges posed by the amount of waste going to landfill and doing their bit to reduce it.
“One of the challenges facing Wales is to consider new ways of making it easier for people to reduce their household refuse.
“Reusing, recycling and composting waste helps reduce landfill and avoids draconian and bureaucratic measures such as compelling households to pay for the amount of waste they throw away each week.
“Wales needs to show it can play its part in tackling climate change because of the strong desire of the people of Wales to protect the environment rather than due to oppressive enforcement by government.”
