Burry Port’s Coastal Visit

On Wednesday morning (25 January 2012) the RNLI’s station at Burry Port was visited by some of the trustees of the RNLI. Every station operated by the Institution is visited by Operations Director Michael Vlasto and some trustees every five years.

The delegation was headed by Rear Admiral John Tolhurst, Chairman of the Operations Committee and Michael Vincent, Chairman of the Technical Committee and other members of the Trustees.

The purpose of the visit is to make sure that stations are running smoothly and they are provided with the correct class of lifeboat to carry out the services that the station performs.

During the visit Michael Vlasto thanked Mr Spencer Davies for his long service to Burry Port and the RNLI. Spencer has served as crewmember, Deputy Launching Authority and has recently retired as Lifeboat Operations Manager. Rear Admiral John Tolhurst presented Spencer with the Institution’s certificate of thanks.

Spencer has also been awarded the RNLI’s Gold Medal. The Institution awards the Gold Medal to volunteers in recognition of their significant contribution to the service, the award will be presented at the Barbican, London 12 May 2012. Spencer was recently appointed President of the station so will continue to support both the station and the RNLI .

Rear Admiral John Tolhurst also presented long service medals to Andrew Pulman and Gary Morgan in recognition of their 20 years service at Burry Port. Mr Trevor Griffiths chair at Burry Port congratulated the three recipients and stated “the contribution of Spencer since 1973 has been vital as he has filled so many of the roles vital to the smooth running of the station. Andrew and Gary continue to serve the station and I hope one day that they will also receive the Gold Medal”.
