Every November since 1974 Burry Port Lifeboat Station has held a Thanksgiving service. The usual venue is Saint Mary’s Church but this year the church is being refurbished and is closed so it was held at the boathouse.
The service was conducted by the Vicar of Saint Mary’s Reverend Paul Davies assisted by Reverend Pauline Barnet Methodist Minister in Burry Port and Reverend Michael Wheatley Curate of Saint Mary’s. Burry Port Town Band provided the music for the hymn singing.
The station’s crew and supporters were joined in the service by the Mayor of Burry Port and Pembrey Mr Steven James, members from the Parish of Burry Port with Pwll and Burry Port Coastguards.
The Welsh lesson was read by Helmsman Owain Davies and Helmsman Gary Morgan read the English lesson. During the service Reverend Paul Davies Blessed the Atlantic 75 Blue Peter II, which was stationed at Burry Port on 30 July 2010. This was followed by a statement of Re-commitment of service to the lifeboat by the crew.
