The volunteers at the RNLI’s station at Burry Port launched on Saturday 10 July 2010 at 4:25pm to assist five adults and five children cut off on the sandbank behind the Shoreline Caravan Park Burry Port. They had been caught out by the speed at which the tide came in.
They were seen by a local resident who informed Swansea Coastguards to alert them of the danger that the ten were in. They were cut off from the shore by the tide which was on its way in following the course of the river that flows alongside the beach behind the Shoreline Caravan Park from the Burry Estuary. The lifeboat took them aboard and were taken to Pembrey Old Harbour and into the care of Burry Port Coastguards.
This call once again highlight the importance of knowing the tide times and to appreciate the rapidity at which the tide comes in and the extra dangers of going on to sandbanks in an estuary with so many rivers.
The lifeboat was crewed by: – Gary Morgan, Susanna Morgan and Hefin Williams.
