Monday 19 July 2010 was a Red Letter Day for the volunteers at the RNLI’s station at Burry Port when they took delivery of an Atlantic 75 named Blue Peter II.
In late June nine crew members from Burry Port went to Poole, Dorset to be trained to man the Atlantic 75. Now that Blue Peter II is at Burry Port the remainder of the crew will undertake a week’s intensive training to enable them to operate Blue Peter II.
Blue Peter II was previously on station at Beaumaris, Anglesey before going in to the reserve fleet when Beaumaris station received its Atlantic 85. Blue Peter II was refitted and was given another lease of life when it was allocated to Burry Port.
Crew members at Burry Port are keen to undertake the additional training to enable them to take Blue Peter II on service, this will only take place after thorough training and assessment by RNLI inspectors and assessors.
Blue Peter II was bought for the RNLI after a Christmas appeal by the BBC’s children’s programme Blue Peter.
