Swansea University School of Management unveiled its new work placement schemes at a gathering of business leaders from across the UK. Sponsored by AM Julie James and hosted at the Senedd in Cardiff, the event offered networking opportunities as well as information about the exciting new venture.
A second launch event will be held in London’s Tower Bridge on 28th January.
The School of Management is one of the UKs leading providers of management, finance and economic research and education. From summer 2014, all undergraduate students will have the opportunity to undertake a work placement as part of their degree.
As well as enhancing graduate employability and student experience, the introduction of work placements also forms part of the School’s strategy to form long lasting partnerships with businesses throughout the UK. Through these links, the School hopes to fundamentally change and improve the operation of business and management. Professor Nigel Piercy, Dean of the School of Management said:
“The fantastic upward trajectory of our university, the voice of government, the positive experience of employers in this type of engagement, and the life-changing impact on students make a compelling case for work placement collaborations.”
The Senedd event included presentations from the Vice Chancellor of Swansea University, AM Julie James and other School of Management staff. One of Swansea’s existing business partners, DTR Medical also had the chance to present. Managing Director, Andrew Davidson, spoke about the success he has had with placement students from Swansea, going on to offer employment to the most successful. Finally, School of Management alumnus, Juan Salguero, told attendees about his marvellous success story following his placement at Swansea City FC where he is now employed as a graduate.
The School is now actively seeking placement opportunities for a summer 2014 start and hopes to have the majority of undergraduate students out on placement by 2016.
