Businesses Set to Benefit from Conference

A conference is to take place next year giving companies with innovative ideas the chance to pitch for funding in a ”Dragons Den style” format to an audience of investors.

Cardiff Council Deputy Leader Neil McEvoy announced the news today at the Chamber of Commerce Business Week event at Celtic Manor.

He revealed that the conference will take place on Tuesday, April 12 next year at City Hall in Cardiff and will bring together key decision makers in business, including directors and senior managers of Welsh companies, funders and business advisors as well as equity investors from the public and private sectors.

The event, organised by Cardiff Council and the South Wales Chamber of Commerce, will also provide an opportunity for businesses to find out more about the support and funding on offer via public and private sector partner organisations, including universities, private and public sector investors.

It will follow on from the successful pilot of the Capital Cardiff: Investing in Business Potential event, which took place in October last year.

Councillor McEvoy, who is also Cardiff Council’s Executive Member for Economic Development,  said: “Today’s launch is the first step in raising awareness of this fantastic conference.  The last few years have been challenging for all those in business and this conference is just one of the ways in which the council is supporting business in the capital.

“The conference provides a forum for those working in business to come together to discuss and share ideas. It also provides a great networking opportunity for future partnerships and business to grow.

“As well as looking forward to the event itself, I am also delighted that we are able to take this event forward with our event partners, the South Wales Chamber of Commerce.  Their knowledge and support will be a key element in making the event a great success and am very much looking forward to working along side them.”

Graham Morgan, Director of the South Wales Chamber, said: “We are constantly striving to ensure links are created between the private and public sector. The joint venture with Cardiff Council on the Capital Cardiff event is a great collaborative approach to encourage Business start-ups, entrepreneurship and allow access to capital for growth. Events such as these will encourage business proprietors to fulfil their aspirations.”
