Anglesey County Council is encouraging local businesses to apply for a new Welsh Assembly training grant to help them through the recession.
The new ProAct scheme is designed to help businesses experiencing a temporary decline in orders during the recession by paying for staff retraining and a wage subsidy to the business.
Economic Development portfolio holder, Councillor Bryan Owen, stressed, “The money is there to help businesses to retrain and retain their staff rather than making then redundant. Most of the uptake of ProAct to date has been in South Wales, and we are working with the Welsh Assembly to raise awareness of the scheme here, targeting former Anglesey Aluminium suppliers in particular.”
ProAct can fund up to £2,000 per person towards training costs, and a wage subsidy of up to £2,000 per person (max £50 per day) during the training period.
Further information on ProAct is available by phoning 0845 6066160 or by searching “proact” on the Google website.
Cllr Owen added, “I’m also keen to see more uptake the REACT scheme, especially the financial incentives to businesses to take on redundant workers.”
Businesses may benefit from a ‘golden hello’ payment of up to £2,000 if they employ someone who was previously made redundant by another employer. Information about the redundancy action (REACT) scheme is available on telephone 01792 765888.
