Busy day for RNLI lifeguards at Whitesands, Pembrokeshire

RNLI lifeguards had a busy day last Saturday at Whitesands beach, Pembrokeshire. The charity’s lifeguards had many reports of missing children throughout the day and also assisted a man who was having trouble paddling back to shore from a neighbouring beach.

The gentleman had paddled with a surf board over to Barry Island, St Davids, accompanied with his son who was travelling by an inflatable dinghy. The gentleman’s son managed to return back to Whitesands without a problem but he alerted the RNLI lifeguards that his father was caught in cross winds and having difficulties returning to shore. The charity’s lifeguards paddled out on their rescue boards to assist the gentleman and brought him back to shore.

The gentleman was wearing a buoyancy aid, was equipped and prepared to go out to sea.

Phil Davies, RNLI Lifeguard Manager said:

‘The weather can change quickly while out on the coast so it’s always best to be fully prepared for any situation. If you find yourself, or see someone else in trouble whilst out surfing this summer, put your hand in the air and shout for help or please alert an RNLI lifeguard.’
