A web page has been created for one of Cardiff’s most visited parks on the social networking site Facebook.
The new tool already has over 100 followers and means that people in and around Cardiff can keep up to date with what is going on at the park via the internet.
The page allows Facebook members to keep track of any news or events at the park through information provided by staff from Cardiff Council’s parks department who regularly update the page. It also provides the opportunity for park users to interact with the management team and each other by posting their own comments and photos.
The profile provides interesting bulletins about the Bute Park Restoration Project and the many wildlife spectacles the park enjoys throughout the year.
Executive Member for Sport, Leisure and Culture, Cllr Nigel Howells said “Facebook is a modern and successful way for people to communicate. The Bute Park fan page brings interesting up-to-date information to park users in a way not previously possible. I’m delighted to see the way the page has been embraced by the existing users and the fantastic photos and wildlife insights featured.
“The tool aims to reach more people of all different ages so they can learn and stay in the loop with what is going on in one Cardiff’s most historical and beautiful parks”.
Bute Park is one of the jewels in Cardiff’s crown, filled with internationally-recognised historic, horticultural and environmental features.
The 56 hectare green haven in the heart of the city is easily accessible and is flanked by the River Taff, Sophia Gardens, Pontcanna Fields and Cardiff Castle.
Bute Park Restoration Project is a £5.6m venture funded by Cardiff Council with a grant of £3.1m from the Heritage Lottery Fund. The Bute Park Facebook website page can be found at http://www.facebook.com/Bute.Park.Cardiff
