Pembrokeshire County Council is reducing its Cabinet to cut costs.
Council Leader John Davies announced at the Authority’s full meeting that from the New Year the Cabinet would be cut from ten Members to eight.
He said the move would reduce costs by over £26,000 a year after two Members agreed to step down.
They are Councillors Peter Morgan and Sian James.
Councillor Morgan has responsibility for Communities and Partnerships and represents The Havens electoral division while Councillor Sian James (Fishguard North West) has the portfolio for the Voluntary Sector, Health and Well-Being. She has been a Cabinet Member since 2004.
“This demonstrates that in these straitened times, the Cabinet is prepared to lead by example” he said afterwards.
“In the future, as the financial cuts bite, we will no doubt be expecting equal amounts of work – or more – to be done by less people.
“It is only right that the Cabinet should practice what it preaches. It will be able to hold its head up by leading by example and reducing its numbers and costs.”
Councillor Davies paid tribute to the two Cabinet Members who will retire on 1st January, 2011.
“During their time in the Cabinet both have made an invaluable contribution to the well being of Pembrokeshire and I thank them for that” he added.
