Work will begin this winter on a scheme to improve the lake and surrounding area at Cae Ddol Park in Ruthin.
The project has been made possible thanks to funding from Ruthin Town Council via a Prudential Borrowing Commitment, CADWYN Clwyd and a Community Capital Grant which has been awarded to the Friends of Cae Ddol Group by Denbighshire County Council.
In preparation for the work, the lake will be drained and Denbighshire would like to thank local residents and visitors in advance for their patience while this ‘’messy’’ exercise is carried out.
During dry summer weather the lake dries out and the lake bed becomes an eyesore for both local residents and visitors to the area. The project will involve the removal of a significant amount of silt and rubbish which has accumulated in the lake over many years.
Once the lake is drained and cleared, a bentonite liner will be installed, which will help ensure constant water levels during the drier months. This work will also benefit the biodiversity of the park and the general aesthetic appearance of this much loved facility.
Associated works include the introduction of marginal vegetation which will improve the appearance of the lake as well as creating an excellent habitat for wildlife.
Interpretation and information boards will be included as well as a viewing/pond dipping platform that can be used by a variety of users including local schools and some sculptured seating to add further interest and provide an excellent vantage point over the renovated lake.
