The extensive support and training opportunities available to local councillors at Caerphilly County Borough Council has resulted in the council being awarded the prestigious ‘Wales Charter for Member Support and Development’.
The Charter was created to promote skills and knowledge development opportunities for councillors.
During the assessment process, Caerphilly County Borough Council was praised for their approach to the Charter and a number of notable practices were highlighted including, the positive working relationships between members serving on a cross-party Member Support and Development Working Group and, a comprehensive training and development programme based on members’ needs.
Cllr Colin Mann, Deputy Leader of the Council said, “I am delighted that we at Caerphilly County Borough Council are leading the way in Wales once again, as the first local authority in Wales to be successfully awarded the Wales Charter for Member Support and Development for a second three-year term”.
“It shows the commitment and determination of councillors from across the county borough to do their level best for their communities”.
He continued, “We are committed to providing training and development opportunities for our members, and it is pleasing that this commitment has been rewarded. I now look forward to working towards the next level of the Charter. This will be of benefit to all elected members”.
