Caerphilly Councillors Decide Against Remote Attendance

CaerphillyMembers of Caerphilly County Borough Council have voted against allowing remote attendance at their meetings. This means that councillors will continue to attend meetings in person rather than use video conferencing technology.

Statutory guidance from Welsh Government states that it is up to each local authority whether it wishes to make remote attendance available.
During a full Council meeting on Tuesday 10th June, Members followed officers’ recommendations that the implementation of remote attendance at meetings should be prohibited at this time.

It was also agreed that the county borough’s relatively small geographic area and good road and rail links meant that Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Members did not face the same ‘geographical challenges’ faced by more rural authorities, where members can travel over an hour to attend a council meeting, and therefore the benefits associated with remote attendance would not be realisable.
