Funding and business advice from Caerphilly County Borough Council has helped a unique new cafe cook up a storm in Caerphilly town centre.
The Council’s Business Enterprise Support team offered grant support and guidance to Cheryl Campbell and Bryn Richards to help them set up The Front Room Cafe at the top of Caerphilly town centre last summer.
That assistance helped Cheryl to transform the front room of her home into a quirky café offering delicious home cooked meals while surrounded by vintage décor, picture-adorned walls and quaint crockery.
Such was Cheryl’s appetite for success on this entrepreneurial quest that she completed an advanced cookery course with Penny Lewis’ Culinary Cottage cookery school in Abergavenny.
Exuberating enthusiasm, Cheryl is hoping that the quirky café will not only create a new offering for the local community to enjoy, but will also contribute to supporting sustainable business within the town centre.
She explained: “I am a keen advocate of self-development and actively promote learning by utilising my business to provide training and work experience opportunities for others.”
Cllr Ken James, Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Planning and Sustainable Development, hopes that Cheryl’s story will inspire other potential business start-ups: “The Business Enterprise Support team offers a number of support beacons to both new start-ups and existing businesses within the county borough. I urge anyone who is considering a new or expanding venture to get in contact with the Business Enterprise Support team at Caerphilly County Borough Council and utilise the support available.”
