Six youngsters from Caerphilly county borough represented Wales at last weekend’s British Inline Puck Hockey Super League Tournament in Rotherham.
The children, who play for Caerphilly Inline Roller Hockey Club, represented the Welsh Under 10s in the national competition, held between Friday 18th April and Monday 21st April at Rotherham’s Simply Skate Arena.
The Caerphilly county borough contingent representing Wales last weekend included Jo Moody, 8, Christopher Raven, 9, and Andrew Raven, 8, (all from Caerphilly), Charlotte Harris, 10, from Ystrad Mynach and siblings Tomoya and Rihoko Nieuwendijk-Adachi, 9 and 8 respectively and originally from Llanbradach.
Although the Wales Under 10s side lost all three of their games against tough opponents, Caerphilly Inline Roller Hockey Club coaches Andrew Jones-Prosser and Roel Nieuwendijk were both extremely proud of their players: “This is a great achievement for our club. This was the players’ first experience of playing for Wales and we’re very proud of them.”
Caerphilly Inline Roller Hockey Club trains on Sundays between 6pm and 8pm at Caerphilly Leisure Centre. The club has members aged between 4 and 16-years-of-age and always welcome new players.
Anyone interested in joining the team should visit a training session at Caerphilly Leisure Centre or contact club secretary Joanne O’Brien on 07583395602.
